About

I’m Joe—aka “Whiskey Veteran”—a U.S. Air Force veteran who discovered a passion for American whiskey a couple years ago. Though I’m still newer to the world of spirits, I’ve set out with my wife to explore the country’s small-batch distilleries and local producers. Together we’ve met distillers in barn-style workshops and urban stillhouses alike, learning how each step of the process—from mash bill to barrel selection—shapes the final spirit.

On WhiskeyVeteran.com, I share our travelogue and tasting journal. You’ll find straightforward accounts of behind-the-scenes tours, thoughtful interviews with distillers, and honest tasting impressions that reflect my journey from novice to enthusiast. I also include practical advice on planning your own whiskey road trip: where to stay, and which veteran benefits can help you enjoy more tastings without stretching your budget.

If you’re curious about exploring America’s whiskey scene alongside someone who’s still learning, you’re in the right place. Subscribe for weekly updates, follow us on Instagram @TheWhiskeyVeteran, and join our journey through America’s vibrant distillery landscape.

And fair warning—some reviews come with a side of veteran banter. If I describe a pour as “more disappointing than an MRE on Thanksgiving,” just know it comes from a place of love… and palate trauma.
